Rankorea interpretation
What the numbers say
China, Japan and Taiwan together account for 9,171,246 arrivals — 60.9% of the reported January–August total. China alone is nearly one in three arrivals. The concentration is a description of this eight-month total, not a forecast for the rest of the year.
Regional gateways carried a material share
Regional airports recorded 2.83 million arrivals and regional ports 1.36 million. Together that is 4,190,000 arrivals, or the ministry's reported 27.8% share. These are gateway counts, not a measure of where visitors stayed or spent money.
Card spending rose faster than arrivals
Foreign-tourist card spending was ₩14.018 trillion, versus ₩9.4396 trillion a year earlier (+48.5%). Card spending is not total tourism revenue or spending per visitor. It cannot be divided by the arrival total to produce an individual spending figure.

What the numbers do not say
- The foreign-visitor series covers foreign nationals entering Korea, overseas Koreans and seafarer crew, while excluding some stay-status categories. It is an arrivals measure, not a count of unique people or tourists on a single purpose of travel.
- The release reports changes alongside policy and market context, but these figures alone do not establish that any policy caused the increase.
- August's record and the January–August comparisons do not reveal seasonality-adjusted demand, visitor satisfaction, destination-level activity or future arrivals.
